Immigrant Parent
Empowerment

Families with any member(s) of 1st & 2nd-generation immigrants. These families often maintain strong ties to their cultures, traditions, and heritage and face many biases due to ignorance, judgments, and more.

In this safe space, we will discuss code-switching dynamics, understanding the school system, language integration/barriers, and overcoming oppressive perspectives in institutions that our families rely on (medical, school, work, legal, etc.). Traditional ways and perspectives are welcomed, and these proclivities are supported and encouraged.

Experience

Weekly group meetings include tailored topics contributed by the cohort in advance, a deep dive into parenting/family culture, values, intersecting identities, parenting resources, a book club, and expert speakers on different parenting topics.

For this cohort, some topics may include:

Navigating the school system
Code-switching dynamics
Language integration/barriers
Workplace challenges and opportunities
Generational perspectives and realities

Cohort Details

Family Background

Immigrant families (1 or more 1st/2nd generation members) of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds and occupations between the ages

28 - 45. Diverse economic brackets are invited, but discussions consider registration demographic stats.

Children Ages

Parents of all ages of children are welcome.

Frequency

Weekly meetups for 8 weeks for expecting parents to connect, learn, and grow in a safe space.
